NOBODY KNOWS

When nobody knows what it means to judge not,
When selfishness sells but compassion does not,
When minds that are narrow and mouths that are wide,
Preach hate and resentment and label it pride.

When no one remembers the Golden Rule,
When the Bible is honed as a hate-monger's tool.
When faith over reason is worshiped as truth,
And it swaggers right into the voting booth.

When every crusade is a cynical sell,
Dangling salvation and promising hell,
When nobody's sure what we're fighting for,
When those who preach peace are the ones waging war.

When nobody knows what diplomacy means,
When arrogance tramples humanity's dreams,
When nobody knows that freedom's spread
Counts hearts and minds not numbers of dead

When nobody knows that war profiteers,
Put boots on the ground and then lead the cheers.
When nobody knows that armored might,
Is a rich man's war and a poor man's fight.

When biblical ruins are trophies of shame,
And history's soldiers just pawns in the game,
How many tombstones, rows upon rows?
Nobody knows. . . . . . Nobody knows.
