ON DOWN-TO-EARTH POETRY

A poem should be a pleasure to read, not a homework assignment. In the world of poetry, Live Verse resides at the bottom of the heap. And that's a good thing. It's poetry for the rest of us. Of course, REAL poets dismiss rhymed verse as novelty poetry. You know, greeting card stuff. Well, here's a challenge. Click on "Nobody Knows" in the left column. Read it. If that's novelty poetry, George Bush was a novelty president! Because Live Verse is not JUST rhymed verse. It's underdog poetry. It sees the world from the bottom up.
